Nice to Meet You

My name is Cathleen Jennings - but friends call me Cathy.
I am a proud '80s kid and love all things retro! I enjoy playing games (all sorts), arts & crafts, hanging out with my husband, genealogy and - of course - photography. If I had to choose one song to be my life's motto it would be the Sammy Davis Jr. classic, "I've Gotta Be Me." I have always thought outside of the box; I became much happier when I finally stopped trying to be like everyone else and started to embrace my God-given weirdness. “I may be mystique in your sight but the truth is, I am just weird. I don't go along with the crowd because I was born to stand out... I am sophisticatedly flamboyant and unique.”
~ Keziah Ruth D. Lingco

When I was 5 years old, I took First Place in a local coloring contest and won a Fisher Price camera. To the left is the first scene I ever captured: my mom, sitting on the blanket she always brought to cheer on my brother at his baseball games. If you look closely, you'll see the box my Fisher Price camera came in.

My family took an impromptu drive through Manhattan, mere months after 9/11. As we were heading away from Ground Zero, I asked, "What is that?" My brother said, "It's Brooklyn Bridge." I quickly leaned out of the window,
held my camera up and captured one of my all time favorite memories -
all while going 35 mph.

Although I took these nearly a decade ago,
my nephews and niece are
still my pride and joy.
I have album after album
of pictures that I took of these treasures,
in an attempt to freeze
every second of my time with them.
I wanted to remember what every smile looked like and capture their forms,
every step of the way...
Every picture is priceless because,
despite our best efforts,
time erases the memories
you are determined to hold tight.
